The Arizona Senate, moments ago, voted to send Gov. Brewer’s long sought sales tax increase to a May 18 special election ballot.

The bill, SCR 1001, now heads to the House where it will face staunch opposition.

In this afternoon’s vote, four senators broke their Taxpayer Protection Pledge, a promise they made to their constituents to oppose “any and all efforts to raise taxes.” The senators who broke their commitment to constituents are as follows:
Bob Burns (R-Peoria)
Linda Gray (R-Phoenix)
Barbara Leff (R-Paradise Valley)
Jay Tibshraeny (R-Chandler)
“Its always unfortunate when lawmakers prove that they made a central campaign promise for reasons of political expediency, only later to demonstrate, much like Obama’s pledge not to raise taxes on those making less than $250,000 a year, that the commitment was hollow,” said Grover Norquist, president of Americans for Tax Reform.

Americans for Tax Reform applauds those senators who stayed true to their promise to constituents today by opposing the referral. Those senators include:
Ron Gould (R-Lake Havasu)
Chuck Gray (R-Mesa)
Jack Harper (R-Surprise)
John Huppenthal (R-Chandler)
Russell Pearce (R-Mesa)
Thayer Verschoor (R-Gilbert)

When you have a vote in Arizona, then you are relevant. Until then keep your single minded, autocratic fluff out of our state problems. Stinking Eastern elitists.... Thanks

If I see a good idea then I will take it. Should Arizona refuse to eat steaks because the cows came from Illinois? The only reason anybody complains about Norquist not being an Arizona resident is because they really want to say they support higher taxes and the most popular way to slip that over on people is by appealing to the not grown in my back yard crowd.

Speaking of Illinois - did you notice the common thread for all GOP candidates who won in yesterday's primary? They all signed the Taxpayer Protection Pledge! Go figure. The stereotype of AZ as a clearly Red or conservative state is just no longer the case.

It's easy to take an ideological stand without regard to consequence. Without rational debate on a broad range of solutions, how do you craft good public policy? Arizona has been devastated by this recession like no other State; primarily because of poor political decisions made during upswing times. Our tax structure is badly in need of restructuring; services are based on ever increasing consumptive growth that cannot be sustained.

We just threw 40,000 kids off of their health insurance. We are proposing not funding mental health care for 17,000 significantly impaired adults. We are rolling back education funding to that of a third world country. We have laid off 1/5 of the State workforce with furloughs impacting many of the remaining. We have stopped maintaining our highways and schools; in many cases we stopped financing the copiers to duplicate 10 year old text books.

What does that mean in the real world, outside of misery, stress and uncertainty? That local government will end up paying the bills. By shirking their basic responsibilities, our State legislators have merely passed the buck to increasingly strained local and county governments. An unfunded mandate as it were. Those are the impacts of standing back, making ideological demands of those who wish to have your elitist posturing imprint. Come to our real world. Speak to the all the citizens of our State, not your mindless sectarian androids

Listed were Senate President Bob Burns, Senate President Pro Tem Barbara Leff, Linda Gray and Jay Tibshraeny, all Republicans. Conspicuously missing were two other GOP names: senators Sylvia Allen and Majority Whip Steve Pierce, who signed on to ATR's Taxpayer Protection Pledge. Hmmmm...what's up with that? Although their names were on the ATR Web site last summer, they're not there now. Thanks to Mary Jo Pitzl, Lead Reporter Legislature AZ Republic newspaper.

Endorsing McCain and Perry is like endorsing a Democrat. Palin has backstabbed the people who put her where she is. She is a traitor just like McCain and Perry, who are both for amnesty and open borders.
